Laine's Alcaidesa Newsletter - 06.12.2007
December, who would believe it the year has nearly gone, winter is here, well not too bad for me hope it is not that cold where you are.
As usually I have been reading all the local papers and this is some of the articles I found interesting.

La Alcaidesa International School
I have read an article First stone of the La Alcaidesa International School to be laid on December 10th.
Went to the local Council Office and nobody seems to know where!! Anyway, it is happening at 1.30pm and expected to open in September 2009.

Jerez Airport
Expansion plans for Jerez Airport, now that could be good for us. Apparently they are planning on over four million passengers a year by 2012 and the operating hours of the airport are set to be extended. In the first phase of improvements a kilometre of runway will be added and the number of check-in desks will increase from 13 to 21.

La Linea de la Concepcion
In "The Resident" they did an article on La Linea - To many people the town of La Linea de la Concepcion is just somewhere you pass through en route to Gibraltar, but those that take a little time to look around will be surprised at what they might find. For many years the town had something of a seedy reputation, and deservedly so, but in recent years La Linea has really cleaned up its act with a programme of investment and a crackdown on some of the elements that gave it a bad name. That sounds good to me and I hope they carry out doing work in La Linea, all the better for us.

Straits of Gibraltar
Did you know that 2007 ends as it started, with cases of ships running aground in the waters off the Straits of Gibraltar. I did not know it was so bad but the residents of the Bay of Algeciras are getting worried because the accidents are more frequent every year.
The first ship run aground on the rocks near the El Chinarral beach and resulted in spillages of fuel several kilometres along the coastline. There were problems with Ships in Jan, Feb, March, August, September and one in November. I know a large number of ships can always be seen from Alcaidesa but never thought of them having accidents. I know what all the men out there are saying Wonder how many Captains were Ladies.

A Load of Bull
Article A Load of Bull - Town Improvements.
Well in Estepona, residents are up in arms after the beautiful bronze bull was removed from the roundabout near the bullring and replaced with an old fishing boat. Apparently this is more in keeping with the rest of the road Avenida del Mar which has various nautical objects on its other roundabouts i.e., a propeller on one and a lighthouse on another. I can see the point of keeping the theme but they could have replaced it with something other than an old fishing boat.
Anyway when travelling around Estepona do look out for the old fishing boat!!

Kissing is good for your Health
My usual amusing article is Kissing is good for your Health!
According to re-search a long passionate kiss helps regulate the heartbeat, lower cholesterol and decrease blood pressure. Would you believe it controls weight it burns 100 calories an hour- well I never! It stimulates more than 30 facial muscles, helping to smooth out lines and wrinkles, tones your cheek and jaw muscles and boost circulation to the face bring a youthful glow. If you want to recognise me I am the Skinny, Healthy looking one with a youthful glow and always kissing somebody. Its just that I get fed up because I want to loose a few hundred calories a day and for me thats just too much kissing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neighbours from Hell
Talking about Neighbours from Hell.
I was watching one of those programmes a week or so ago about noisy Neighbours and how it affects the people living next door.
Well, I have got new neighbours and am totally un-impressed. They are slimy and every time I see them they turn and go the other way. There is a few in the family and I just hope they move on soon.
I asked them if I could get a picture for my newsletter and they obliged.
